Internship Final Reflection - Advertisement

During the end of my internship days, I have been doing a lot work, in the classroom and out the class room helping my mentor organize the children book for different grades. I am surely positive that I achieve my goals by teaching the kids understand many of the topics so they can pass their state exams. The grade average that the school has on passing the state exams has dramatically increased because the children are getting to understand more the classes and participating more class work. On my work, I’ve learned many things that will help me on my future, like to communicate with adults and try to keep an adequate conversation, help the kids increase their knowledge space, explain the subjects with easier and understandable words so the students can understand it better, while on conversation I use many strong words so the people can find the conversation more challenging and interesting.

I have grown to be a responsible and a great adult because I am always thinking that to work, the money is going to come to you when is not right, you have to work for it and really hard, even sweat while working to show you are working hard. Some highlights of my internship experiences are to communicate with the students and be more mature every day so the students can know that they are been offered help and a lot of care is dedicated towards them, also the students can have a view of you as a big motivation for them so they can be a successful student in the future. There was one thing that I have learned on the professional world, that is to do your best and to keep focusing on the task until it is fulfill the task because then you will have to do every thing else in a rush and you will be losing a lot of time doing one thing, when another task is waiting for you with out rest.

Most of the internship year, I didn't have any problem with the working ambience, the attitude of my co-worker and mentor, but there was only one challenge that I face every day, to get the kindergarteners attention when I was going to say something. At the beginning of the working days, the children will be in a riot and you could not even hear your self, however, when the days pass, slowly the children will began to get confidence toward you and to prove it, they will ask you question and for help. That challenge I've overcome it in a great way because as a result of that challenge, I got to memorize most of the kid’s names.

If in any occasion I were to start internship next week, one thing I would do differently is not to show any bit of nervous and be a great confident person so people could have confidence on me. Also I will probably, try to get the kids to have fun so they could listen to me and they could give me their attention. If another student will be offered the internship I have, the best advise that I will give him is to be your self when you are with the kids because they are really intelligent and they will even make plans to test your brain to demonstrate that you are an adult so they could show you respect during the working session. Also to try and have a lot of fun with the kindergarteners as you can because they like to play a lot. The mayor thing that i will miss about my internship is working with the kids and giving the best that i can teach to the 3rd graders because that was one of my goals, to make the all the kindergarteners and the 3rd graders know that when they are In the path of education It will not be seem really easy but slowly with a lot of effort toward your studying and reading a lot of books will be worth a lot of easy step that could take you to a much easier road to success, but you have to keep studying and trying hard to keep your score at a hill top level.

Mid point Reflection

Working at a school, having the opportunity to help the teacher with the children is a great way to practice your communication skills because there is some career that involved a lot of talking like being a lawyer or a business manager, etc, all of these careers involves a lot of talking and with some great manners. Internship for my expectation has been a little different that I had expected, because some of the kindergarteners behave like the 3rd graders and some 3rd graders behave like if they are in a high school. International High School is kind of similar because most of the students behave really good, stay focus on the task, work as if it was a challenge to overcome. However, in the Change For Kids site, the children are very grateful for being in school and mostly appreciate the help the teachers help towards the student, every minute of dedication on the education by the teachers is a great honor for the teachers. On my internship I have learned new skills like increasing my typing skills a lot more and I could type a little without looking at the keyboard, another skill I learned is to talk more using strong words and to make my listening of other strong words better, that way I could understand the words better.

The relationship that I have with my mentor and co-worker is getting stronger because as I gain their confidence and faith, my mentor and co-worker can trust me and count on me for any work that I can help on. When I interact with adults, I mostly am calm, talk in a smooth way and try to have a great discussion. While talking on my internship, I also gain more strength on my English and it is growing little by little. While I am on an assignment, I will try to get the job done that way my mentor can see that I am a very attentive student, worker or person. When I am in the 3rd graders class, I will try to explain what the students should do kind of like the teacher job and I will also try to find a different and simple way of explanation so the students could understand what the subject is about in a much better way. (It requires a lot of thinking to find a different strategy of a way of explaining from the teacher idea)

A challenge that I had on my internship site is trying to get the kindergarteners attention at first, after a while the kids had begin to show appropriate behavior around adults and teachers. Also the kids are kind of changing their behavior with baby steps but are giving their best to change from wild to calm students that behave like teenagers. On my internship site I’ve try to organized a mental schedule for me to get my hours and class work done on time. On my way going to my site takes like approximately 1 hour and 10 to 20 minutes of ride, in that time I get time to start short homework like math or sometimes earth and science work, sometimes I get chance to finish incomplete work. While my mentor goes to meetings and my partner and I will be just completing any homework we’ve have been assigned just not to waste time. Some goals that I will like to accomplish are to do more hours that I supposed to do for me not to do any over the summer. I will like to enjoy my summer and also attend to summer school, another goal that I have Is to make sure the students of the 3rd grade, understand most of the subjects that is required on the regents or state exams. Something I leaned about NYC as a result of being out is that working outside of school is really fun because is like working to help your self and others, also to get experience on working techniques and planning what to do next.

Four Week Into Internship

The site where I work is called “Change for Kids”; my position held on the job is Literacy Tutor for kindergartners and teacher assistant for 3rd grade. The company provides excellent education for children and also it help teachers in their communication and also in their behavior towards kids. It helps children to advance grades in a variety of techniques to get high grades on the different activities done in class. The task I do daily are to greet people as I enter the building, sign in the office and get a pass, and go to my mentor office and get refresh with the activities I am going to do with the class. My mentor is a very glad person, she enjoys working with children, she is also a very focus person example: when she has to do a meeting with the parents she get the job done and up to the next one, and she is a fun person to work with because when she wants to be humorous she makes people laugh a lot. Some memorable moments I have from my very first weeks are when the kindergartners surround me and present themselves with no fear for stranger, the kids even taught me the beautiful work they were doing to show kindness. I really enjoy working with the children and assisting the teacher in their needs, however, for me it is valuable experience for the future.

The name of the neighborhood that my site is Bedford Stuyvesant, I take me approximately 1hour and 30 minutes to get to my internship, so I leave from school at 11:35am to 11:40am everyday. I arrive everyday to my home approximately 5pm to 5:30pm. I work for 3 to 4 hours most of the time. The person who sings my cards every time I go to my internship is Ms. Ben Aaman or if she is absent, the assistant principal sings the paper.

First Two Weeks (Feb. 22 - March 4)

My first thoughts that I had when I arrived at my internship is to communicate and to work with people were I could help and share my knowledge with other people.
Also I could be to assist other people in sites, to work with people to get the job done and to get fruitful results.

I’ve been working at a school, with kindergarteners and 3rd graders. In the kindergarteners I help them read books and pronunciations of words, help them be creative and playful to each other. For the 3rd graders, I help them in every class, specially in mathematics because they are doing the State Exams and the school have a good score board of the progress the student have done by the past years.
